Drake and The Weeknd were once good friends. They were even planning to do a joint OVO album together. But now, their friendship has descended into an all-out war with security guards injured by bullets.
It all started when The Weeknd turned down Drake’s offer to sign with his OVO label back in 2012, instead inking a deal with Republic Records. Drake was furious, tweeting “You owe me a favor” after the betrayal. Tensions simmered for years until 2022 when The Weeknd appeared to diss Drake and OVO on his Future collabo “All To Myself.”
In the lyrics, The Weeknd threw major shade at Drake’s camp, claiming there were “leaks in their operation” – a reference to Drake’s private videos and info getting exposed online. He even took a shot at Drake’s “Tik-Tok music”.
Things took a turn recently when a security guard was shot outside Drake’s Toronto mansion, just days after a guard for The Weeknd’s manager Cash XO was also shot in LA. Fans are connecting the dots, theorizing that the Toronto incident was payback for the earlier attack.
OVO vs XO beef is at an all-time high, this vicious feud between the two Canadian superstars shows no signs of cooling off. Whose side are you on?
